Brockton mother shot dead on Arthur Paquin Way

Brockton mother shot dead on Arthur Paquin Way

2 min - Aug 13, 2007

The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass. www.enterprisenews.com By Maria Papadopoulos, ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER BROCKTON -- Her close friend says Rosa Andrade moved to Arthur Paquin Way to start her life anew. But those dreams were shattered Sunday afternoon when a man believed to be Andrade's estranged ex-boyfriend tracked down the single mother outside her apartment complex and shot her dead, then turned the gun on himself, on a street that witnesses said was teeming with children. "He always used to say, 'I'm going to kill her one day and then I'm going to kill myself,'" Andrade's close friend, Eugenia Marques, cried as she crouched down on the sidewalk across from the crime scene Sunday. Authorities would not identify the man who shot Andrade, the city's tenth homicide, Sunday night. "She was shot in the head by a male who then shot himself. We are not releasing his name. It is unclear whether he will survive," said Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton. The man shot himself in the head after shooting Andrade, said Middleton. He was taken to an area hospital and then transferred to a Boston hospital, she said. His condition was not known Sunday night. Police responded to Arthur Paquin Way after receiving 911 emergency calls for shots fired at 4:47 p.m. Sunday. Authorities found Andrade, 39, and the man both shot and lying on pavement in a parking lot outside 337 Arthur Paquin Way, witnesses said. Jay Wooden of Brockton was visiting friends in the housing complex when he heard neighbors' scream that someone had been shot. "I ran outside and I saw the guy and the woman lying on the ground," said Wooden, 24. Wooden said the man, who had shot himself in the mouth, was lying on the ground "breathing heavy" and bleeding profusely through his mouth and nose. The man was lying on a handgun, Wooden said. Andrade was bleeding heavily from her throat area, he said. "She wasn't breathing at all," Wooden said. "I was just standing there, hovering over him. The shells were on the ground." Wooden then told neighborhood children to turn away. "There was kids out there. We told the kids to go inside because the kids can't see stuff like that. There was blood gushing" everywhere, Wooden said. "It was the most horrible scene I've ever seen in my life," said Veronica Paquin, daughter of the late Arthur Paquin, the founder of the city's Crime Watch program, for whom the street is named. The shooting, which happened next door to Paquin's home, was the second fatal shooting on Arthur Paquin Way in three weeks. Jose Gurley, 17, was shot dead outside 282 Arthur Paquin Way on July 21. "It's very scary. Our kids hang around here and play in the basketball court," said Stephanie Sheely, 35, a mother of two, as she and other neighbors watched investigators collect evidence and clean blood off the pavement at Sunday's crime scene. White towels saturated with blood and other items of clothing were on the ground near Andrade's small, green compact car, later towed from the scene. "I don't feel safe anymore," said Vicki Garcia, 38, who lives on Arthur Paquin Way close to where Gurley was shot dead. "I don't know what to expect anymore." Jandira Gomes was inside her Roosevelt Heights home when she heard several gunshots. "They were really loud," Gomes said, holding an infant. "It's scary." Andrade, who was Cape Verdean, moved into Roosevelt Heights, a city-owned affordable housing complex on the city's north side, with her toddler son a month ago, Marques said. Andrade had taken out restraining orders against her ex-boyfriend, also the father of her child, she said. "She was going to court, back and forth. She never told him that she lived in here. I guess he followed her," Marques, 35, said, tears streaming down her cheeks. "They kept breaking up and then get back together," Marques said, sobbing loudly as she hugged her three children. "I always used to tell her, 'He's threatened you. Leave him for good.'" "He was very jealous of her. She didn't want anything to do with him anymore," Marques said. "But he kept coming." Meanwhile, Paquin said her father would have been horrified had he lived to see the gun violence on his street. Arthur Paquin waged a ferocious crusade against crime in the 1980s and 1990s, organizing neighborhood groups and facing down criminals on the street. "This is right here," his daughter said, pointing to the crime scene from the Paquin walkway. "This is our home. My father would say, 'We've never seen this, never.'" Eminem-- Mosh (Barack Obama Remix)

Eminem-- Mosh (Barack Obama Remix)

*** NO Infringement Intended *** ** UPDATE ** Long overdue... I know, but great thanks to the members of Democratic Underground.org for passing this little vid that could along.... My first vid!!!! Title has been changed upon numerous requests... When I first saw Eminem's "Mosh" video I was in college. I saw the soldier being sent to Iraq on another tour of duty for a war that should have never been waged in the first place. I saw the single mother being evicted out of her apartment and I knew even though these were animations that I was watching, the problems that they represent were very real. I also thought no one in their right minds would vote for George Bush again. Boy was I wrong. Not only have these problems not changed since 2004, they've gotten even worse. Thousands of housing foreclosures across the country, gas averaging $4.10 (it'll probably go up another 50 cents by the times I put this video up), food and cost of living prices rising, and average salaries falling. 4100 soldiers have died in Iraq, destroying countless lives for an unjust war, in which the only people profiting are the greedy corporations like Halliburton and Blackwater. The American people will have a chance to redeem themselves not only in the eyes of the global community, but our own. There will be a clear choice come November 4th. Please vote.

More Families Seek Help From Social Services

More Families Seek Help From Social Services
kmbctv
2 min - May 17, 2008

The tough economy means tough times for families across the metro area, and more people are seeking help from social services for the first time in their lives. Hillcrest Transitional Housing is a local group that helps people with financial planning and temporary housing, and the workers say they're getting more calls for help than ever before. "With the price of gas, grocery wise, it's been very tough," said Gwen Perez, a single mother with two children. Perez is studying for her GED and is trying to get back on her feet, thanks to the help of a rent-free apartment provided by Hillcrest. "There's a tsunami of need coming our way in terms of these families that are needing help," Hillcrest's Cotton Sivils told KMBC's Jere Gish. In addition to housing, Hillcrest provides food and other resources during a resident's 90-day stay in the program. Every Hillcrest site has a waiting list. "We're actually starting to see families that have never accessed social services before," Sivils said. Hillcrest is expanding its housing across the metro area. They're also getting calls for people they have to refer to other agencies. "We've gotten some calls from people thinking we can help them save their home by giving them financial resources, unfortunately, that's not what our program is geared to," Hillcrest's Becky Poitras said. The program is designed to help people like Perez, who has changed her spending habits. "Before, I could go and just spend money on anything and everything," Perez said. But she sees a better future ahead. "Hopefully do some schooling and get a better paying job with it being so tough out there," Perez said. You have to apply and be accepted into the Hillcrest program. Workers said it's been successful in helping people get housing and bring stability back in their lives.

When it lowers since daily I make to the forest park of my zone to look for cicadas and dust devils I had the luck to even find me with this cicada climbing by a trunk of a tree in youthful state or nymph that had emerged from the Earth to make the transformation of nymph to adult, it does not doubt in taking it to house to do a great pursuit in photography and video to him, because the suit to house and I put it in a little tree (Arce negundo) that I have in the patio where I arranged myself to make the pursuit in spite of being with 35.7ºc of heat in the shade! the video shows when even it was looking for a leaf or firm small branch where to make the dumb one for that reason it appears mouth down I aim to fall, but with those hard patitas that have key by no means and finally I am reconciled. I must put the video complete where it appears all its transformation because he is really amazing as it is leaving that housing of skin and as it is stretching the legs, pumping the blood by the veins of the wings stretching them of course that I remain with these so wonderful insects stuned watching them and enjoying its pleasant sound that to most of the people who do not understand of animals because she is to him annoying. A strong single hug which they love and they respect to the mother nature.

Jay-Z Ft. Biggie Smalls - Brooklyn's finest - video.i7i.us

Jay-Z Ft. Biggie Smalls - Brooklyn's finest - video.i7i.us

Unknown length - Feb 12, 2008

Originally from Marcy Houses housing project in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City[8], Jay-Z was abandoned by his father Adnes Reeves when he was twelve years old.[9] Jay-Z attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn, along with rapper AZ, until it was closed down. After that he attended George Westinghouse Information Technology High School in Downtown Brooklyn, with fellow rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, and Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey, but did not graduate.[10] He claims to have been caught up in selling drugs, to which he refers in his music.[9] According to his mother Gloria Carter, a young Jay-Z used to wake his siblings up at night banging out drum patterns on the kitchen table. Eventually, she bought him a boom box for his birthday and thus sparked his interest in music. He began freestyling, writing rhymes, and followed the music of many artists popular at the time. It is stated that he beat Busta Rhymes in a rap battle, but also has lost to DMX. In his neighborhood, Carter was known as "Jazzy", a nickname that eventually developed into his stage name, "Jay-Z". The moniker is also a homage to his musical mentor Jaz-O (a.k.a. Jaz, Big Jaz) as well as to the J/Z subway lines that have a stop at Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn.[8] Jay-Z can be heard on several of Jaz-O's early recordings in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including "The Originators" and "Hawaiian Sophie". He also collaborated with Inglewood, California producer Three-1-Zero. His career had a jump start when he battled a rapper by the name of Zai. The battle caught the eye of many record labels, as Jay-Z was able to hold his own against Zai. He also made an appearance on a popular song by Big L, "Da Graveyard", and on Mic Geronimo's "Time to Build", which also featured early appearances by DMX Q-Man and Ja Rule and Shazim Hasan in 1995. His first official rap single was called "I Can't Get With That" which he also released a music video for.
